Normally, I edit my client’s galleries in order of their session. I had to make the exception on this one. We just did this session the other night. She said she would be okay if the weather didn’t cooperate and we had to do the pictures inside the studio, but we were able to get the session done in between storms and rain showers. Yay! Since it has a 4th of July theme, it only seems fitting to make sure she had some pictures to share on 4th of July. What a cute way to make a big announcement, congrats!
Welcome to Pictures by Whitney! My name is Whitney Marzullo. I am a custom newborn & family photographer based in Southern York County, Pennsylvania. I love everything photography, but my passions are newborns & families. I love photographing families & watching them grow. I believe that you don't need to have a special occasion to have a session, because every day is a good day to capture a smile!
Purple People Eater Cake Smashing | Southern York County Pennsylvania Newborn and Family Photographer
I love pink, but I do a lot of cake smashing sessions for girls that are pink, so it was fun to mix it up. I love the bolder purple of this session. Her mom likes things a little more simple, and I think it was perfect. It was sweet & simple. This little girl was all business. It was one of my fastest cake smashing session, ever!
Pretty in Pink and Covered in Cake | Southern York County Pennsylvania Newborn and Family Photographer
This little girl was adorable! I had a fun time hanging out with her and her parents. She enjoyed playing with the cake and covering herself in the sweet frosting. Not sure if she even ate any of it! Even if she didn’t eat any of it, I would consider it a success because she got very, very messy!
Sometimes I get to go to new places to do sessions. This one was done at a family vacation home that has been in the family for many, many years. They were looking to get one good family photograph of everyone (I think the mission was successful!) I always get a little nervous about doing sessions that I haven’t visited yet. Even though some places are picturesque, it doesn’t necessarily make them a perfect location for a session. The is place was perfect. We did the session in the middle of the day (which can be tricky) but some big beautiful trees provided enough open shade that it all came together.
Another Family Session @ Wallace Cross Mill | Southern York County Pennsylvania Newborn & Family Photographer
There are so many reasons that sessions at the Mill are so popular. One it has good light and open shade. It has this awesome creek, and a very cool historic Mill. It changes with the seasons. It is just beautiful. It is also one of my favorite places because it is usually pretty quiet. It truly is a hidden gem. I loved hanging out with this family and getting to know them.
A couple weeks ago, our friends (and neighbors) had found out that their dog had Lymphoma. They wanted to schedule a family session with Ellie. They were totally up for my suggestion to do the session at this private residence with a slightly over-grown field. It was a fun session, but a little sad, too. It is so hard to let go of a pet especially one that has been a part of just about every adult milestone in your life. They are one of the nicest families you’ll ever meet, and Miss Ellie is one of the sweetest dogs. I am so glad that I was able to capture some pictures of them with Ellie. I am sure that they will treasure them forever.
Family Maternity @ Wallace Cross Mill | Southern York County Pennsylvania Newborn & Family Photographer
I love this family. I first photographed their family for their son’s newborn session, and I get to see them several times a year. When the mom told me she was pregnant again, I was so excited! We work really well together. She has lots of ideas, but she also gives me my artistic freedom. She also has realistic expectations. As much as she would like to have specific pictures, she knows that her toddler son may have a different idea and for the most part we have success. For this maternity session, she told me “I just want to remember this moment. I want to remember this feeling because this will probably be my last baby.” It is so true that a picture can freeze time and give you tangible memory that may otherwise be forgotten or fade over time or pushed back into the corners of our mind.
Most of the time, I love a good cake smashing session. This was no exception. This little girl was adorable. She didn’t dive into it, but she tasted it and she took a few big handfuls. It was a great cake smashing session. I don’t know how her parents will ever decide which ones are their favorites.
Music To My Ears . . . Summer Vacation | Southern York County Pennsylvania Newborn & Family Photographer
Today I am thankful that summer vacation is almost here. I enjoy when my kids are done the school year (don’t get me wrong I will be happy when it is time for them to return to school, too). I am lucky enough that my job allows me to be flexible with my time so I can do some fun things with them, and my oldest if fully capable of helping me out with the younger two. I love music. Last year, we made a playlist for the car for our adventures. An adventure is code for a day trip that will generally lead to me saying let’s take the back road and getting lost. Getting lost is my way of teaching my kids problem-solving and keeping their minds sharp over the summer (that’s a lie because the truth is I have a terrible sense of direction). I still have the playlist saved, and I am hoping we either come up with a new list or we simply add to the existing list. These are just a few of my favorite songs from last year-
1. Bruises (Train)
2. Free Fallin’ (Tom Petty)
3. I Knew You Were Trouble (Taylor Swift)
4. Little Talks (Of Monsters and Men)
5. People Are Crazy (Billy Currington)
6. Boys ‘Round Here (Blake Shelton)
7. Pay Phone (Maroon Five)
8. Summer Girl (Jessica Andrews)
I can’t wait for some more adventures and more summer memories. I can’t wait to live in the moment for this summer and get lost. My oldest is in high school, and she’ll probably have a summer job next year. And before I know it she will be gone. And, the reality is that I know that I will redefine the summer vacation for where we are in life and they will still be great, but as with every new milestone in our family it is kind of sad, too.
Sometimes things happen that don’t make it possible for someone to come in for a newborn session. Sometimes it can be months before they can make it happen. And, even though photographing a baby that is just a couple months old can be challenging and limiting, it’s okay. You only need a couple of pictures to capture a moment in life. I thought this little guy would be more like a newborn because he was born a little early, but he was big and strong and active and adorable. I still love the faux-hawk.
